Riding School

At Colmar Equestrian, our riding lessons are led by highly qualified instructors, trained by both BHS and ABRS, ensuring that your experience with us yields the best results and maximum enjoyment. What kind of lessons do we offer? We’ve developed a comprehensive lesson plan that caters to everyone, ranging from complete beginners to advanced riders. Our array of lessons includes private and group sessions suitable for all ages, starting from Tiny Tots at 4 years old. During school holidays, we also provide pony riding sessions for children as young as 3.

For experienced riders or those returning to riding, we require a private assessment lesson before you can join any of our group classes. This approach ensures a tailored and safe riding experience for every individual at Colmar Equestrian.

Riding At Colmar Equestrian

  • Young Riders:

For novice young riders, Group lessons are essential for building confidence and skills necessary for events and group activities like hacking. Group settings not only enhance learning by observing peers but also foster camaraderie among riders. Beginners typically start in our Lead Rein classes (LR1 and LR2), focusing on walk, trot, and canter, with a leader assisting in 30-minute sessions. As skills and independence grow, riders advance to Junior Group Lessons (J1 to J5). Parents can also opt for private lessons to hone specific skills.

  • Adult Beginners:

Adults generally begin with private lessons, progressing to Group lessons as they develop their skills.

  • Lesson Structure:

Riding is physically demanding, especially for novices and young riders, hence shorter initial sessions are crucial for a positive experience. Progression is key, and rushing through levels is discouraged to ensure confidence building. Our programs and horses are tailored by instructors to match each rider’s skill level.

  • Group Lessons:

Categorised by skill level, our junior and adult group lessons last between 45 to 60 minutes. Experienced riders must undergo a private assessment before joining a group lesson. Note that lessons may be adjusted in duration based on group size.

  • Beginner Riding Lessons:

Tiny Tots aged 4 to 6 start in 20-minute Lead Rein classes, progressing to 30-minute classes based on confidence and ability. Adults and older children begin with private lessons, moving to group lessons as appropriate.

  • Schedules and Levels:

For detailed schedules of Tiny Tots Rides, LR1, LR2, and Junior Group Lessons, please contact reception. Junior Lessons are divided into five levels, requiring an assessment for new riders. Lesson duration and levels vary, with specific times available upon request.

  • Adult Group Lessons:

Currently not available. Training for BHS Stage 1, 2, & 3 exams includes a 1-hour group riding lesson and stable management courses. Contact us for more details.

  • Dress Code:

Safety is paramount. Riders must wear riding hats, boots, gloves, and advised to wear body protectors. Dress appropriately with covered shoulders and legs. Long hair should be tied back, and jewellery removed. Spectators also need suitable footwear. Rental hats and boots are available for a small fee.

Feel free to reach out for advice on attire or any other inquiries.

Ponies

At Colmar Equestrian, we believe that unforgettable memories are made with ponies, which often become a child’s best friend and confidant. To nurture this bond, we offer Pony Rides during school holidays for children aged 4 to 8. These rides, weather permitting, take place in our fields in small groups of no more than five, each child accompanied by their own leader. A 20-minute ride is priced at £20.00, and times vary daily based on the centre’s schedule. The maximum weight limit for pony rides is 7 stone.

For a more immersive experience, our 60-minute Pony Experience, available for £53 (or £30 for each additional child, up to two), includes a 30-minute riding lesson and 30 minutes of pony care. This experience, bookable on weekdays during school holidays, is subject to availability and the centre’s activities. The weight limit here is 11 stone.

For younger enthusiasts aged 4-5, we offer Tiny Tots Rides on Saturdays and Sundays at 12.30pm for £20.00.

If you have specific requests or need more information, please contact us to discuss possibilities and make bookings. At Colmar Equestrian, we’re dedicated to creating joyful and educational experiences for all young riders.
